Ahopsan Forest, Gijang “The House of Bamboo Trees” (아홉산 숲)
Address: Ahopsan forest 아홉산 숲 is located in 37-1, Midong-gil, Cheolma-myeon | Gijang-gun, Busan 46050, South Korea
South Korean’s love to hike through forests and mountain trails and the Korean movie films has put several forests in South Korea on the map, for locals and tourists. Ahopsan Forest, Gijang (아홉산 숲) is one such privately-owned forest.
The King Eternal Monarch has been filming at the forest, but the main movie I am writing about is Kundo: Age of the Rampant (Korean: 군도: 민란의 시대)

You go to the ticket booth and pay the 5,000 Won. Once you walk past the ticket booth, your journey on the nine mountains will begin. The trails are easy to spot, directions easy to follow. Follow the arrows marked along the trails, and it will be a pleasant easy stroll. During your walk, you will see all sorts of trees; bamboo, red pines, oak trees, hinoki cypress and other trees. There is supposedly a total of 116 different types of trees located inside Ahopsan Forest.
What really made Ahopsan Forest famous are the bamboo habitat. There are two bamboo forests located within Ahopsan Forest. The first bamboo habitat you will walk upon is the Maengjongjuk Forest and the second bamboo forest is the area known as the “bamboo tree-lined trail.” This part of the bamboo habitat has bamboo trees lining both sides of the trail.

It will take about 1 to 2 hours to walk through all the trails in Ahopsan Forest. Probably faster if you bring a sword and recreate the chasing scene with your friends and family. LOL. Swords are not included at the ticket booth, you will have to bring your own.
You will see the nature of South Korea up close at times, perhaps seeing a rabbit run past. Its an awesome place to visit when you are in Busan. A now public gem, you can get some fresh air away from the city, take a hike, have a picnic, shoot some videos and photos. When you visit, you will know why Ahopsan Forest is a favorite place for movie film shoots.

How To Get To Ahopsan Forest By:
Train: Walk to Namcheon Subway Station and take Line 2 to Suyeong Station. Walk onto metro line 3 to Minam station. Get on Train line 4 from Minam to Banyeo Agricultural Market. Get off at the Banyeo Agricultural Market and walk to exit at gate 2. Wait for and ride on bus number 184 and get off at the Ungcheon (웅천) and walk about six minutes.
If you live near any of these subway stations, just take the train line to the next stop on the route. If you live near Minam station, don’t go to Namcheon Subway Station and take the subway to Ahopsan Forest. I didn’t need to explain that did I? But, just in case. LOL.

It is year 1862. During the late Joseon dynasty, there was social and economic unrest throughout Korea. Tyranny, natural disasters, famines, poverty, hunger and death were common realities to look forward to. The nobles ruled with an iron hand, expanding their own interests while exploiting the poor.
For this reason, a band of outlaws calling themselves Kundo rose up against the ruling class in the Joseon dynasty. They are a beacon of hope for the poor while they strike fear amongst the corrupt nobles. The king is unable to stop them.

These two men meet and strike a dangerous alliance and Dolmuchi loses both his mother and sister as a result. Being a child from a poor family, Dolmuchi is powerless to stop the loss of both his mother and sister.
Betrayed and stomped on by Jo Yoon, even though an illegitimate child of a powerful and wealthy family, still holds tremendous power when compare to the butcher’s son, Dolmuchi. Dolmuchi is rescued by the Kundo and becomes a member of the Kundo. He decides to fight against Jo Yoon, who represents the same corrupt and ruthless nobles that rule Korea.
